Frequently asked questions
Short answers to common questions families have when exploring services.

General and therapy structure
What is ABA therapy, and how does it work?
Applied behavior analysis, or ABA, is a personalized approach that uses observation, teaching, and encouragement to help children build useful skills. Care should reflect each child’s strengths, needs, and everyday life.
What does a typical ABA session look like?
I work on your child’s goals through play, daily routines, and planned practice. Sessions are adjusted based on how your child responds and what helps them learn best.
Is ABA therapy play-based or structured at a desk?
Sessions may include play, movement, daily routines, and short periods of structured teaching. The approach depends on your child’s goals, preferences, and how they learn best.
How are goals chosen for my child?
I develop goals with your family based on your child’s strengths, needs, and preferences. The plan focuses on meaningful skills that can support communication, independence, participation, and everyday life.
What is parent training?
Parent training is part of your child’s clinical plan. I explain and demonstrate the strategies used in sessions, then help you practice using them comfortably in everyday life.
Time and service details
What if there isn’t an opening that fits our schedule?
If an opening isn’t available, you may choose to join the waitlist. I’ll contact you when an opening may fit your family’s scheduling needs. Joining the waitlist does not guarantee a start date.
How many hours will my child need, and how long will services last?
There is no standard schedule or length of care for every child. I make an initial recommendation after the assessment, then regularly review your child’s progress, current needs, and your family’s priorities with you.
Does my child need an official autism diagnosis to start?
Yes. Lantern ABA requires a formal autism spectrum disorder diagnosis before services can begin. Please contact us if you have questions about acceptable diagnostic documentation.
How does payment and insurance reimbursement work?
Lantern ABA is a private-pay practice and does not bill insurance directly. Depending on your plan, you may be able to submit documentation to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement; your insurer can explain your specific benefits and requirements.
